Learning from the Lives of Others

This course, from the School of Health in Social Science, is aimed primarily at first and second year undergraduate students on the MA Health, Science and Society programme, and offers students an opportunity to develop civic responsibility and an understanding of social ethics by making a genuine contribution to local people’s lives. This is done via a voluntary placement with a local non-profit organisation that works with vulnerable or disadvantaged people in the local community, bringing students into direct contact with their service-users. Students receive full training by the host organisation, and their voluntary work is fully integrated with their academic work.
